Let’s face it, there’s nothing more annoying than dust mites and bed bugs! No matter how clean your home really is, these pests will always find a way in. Not only that, over time, they will cause significant problems as well. If you have one or more allergies, the consequences can be devastating.

While you can easily use a combination of different toxins and chemicals, that’s not what we recommend here. Instead, you should always go for natural remedies. Not only are they much more effective, but they are also free of any (nasty) side-effects. You don’t want to actively poison your body while dealing with this issue.

There are many home remedies to choose from but, in the lines below, we will focus on the most effective ones.

Use high temperature to kill off your dust mites and bed bugs

The first strategy is actually a very straightforward one. In order to remove the annoying vermins from your home, sometimes you just need high temperature.

Use a high-temperature setting for both your dryer and washer and apply it to your pillows and bed sheets. A temperature of at least 140 degrees Fahrenheit is enough to fully eradicate both dust mites and bed bugs. Various experts have conducted plenty of different studies to find the ideal temperature that would knock off those nasty parasites and, indeed, 140 degrees Fahrenheit seems to be the bare minimum.

Other than removing dust mites and bed bugs, a high-temperature environment will automatically remove their main food source as well — dust and dander. So, if you need a quick strategy to turn the tides in your favor, this is probably your best bet.

Get yourself a mite-proof mattress cover

Another very effective tool that you can use to fight against both dust mites and bed bugs is a mite-proof cover. The first thing you need to do is cover your pillows and mattress with a mite-proof encasement. This cover will form a very reliable barrier that will trap both dust mites and bed bugs inside it.

We highly recommend this method to everyone, also if you suffer from allergies, a mite-proof cover is pretty much a must.

Diatomaceous Earth is one of your biggest allies in this fight

Diatomaceous Earth is a powder that can very effectively eradicate a whole range of different pests including bed bugs and dust mites. It doesn’t contain any toxic chemicals and it uses only natural and organic materials. This remedy kills off parasites by depriving them of their water sources. As they become dehydrated, they will die off one by one and you will finally breathe normally again.

The first thing you need to do is apply the powder around the infested area. Before you do that, you need to locate the “hotspots” that contain the most parasites so that you can prepare your Diatomaceous Earth in time. Once you’ve applied the powder, the only thing you need to do is wait before every single parasite is eradicated. In general, you won’t need to wait too long and the job is typically done in 10 days at worst. This method has a very high mortality rate (it’s over 90%) so chances are you won’t need to reapply the powder once this initial period is finished.

We should also add a side note here. Before you use Diatomaceous Earth for the first time, make sure you wash your linens in very hot water. Also, make sure you vacuum your home as much as possible. That way, you’ll get a much better overview of the infested areas and, at the same time, you will kill some parasites along the way as well.

Baking soda can be very helpful as well

Everyone knows that baking soda is a true “killer remedy”. Not only is it effective against all kinds of different vermin, but it also has some very powerful protective compounds as well. But not many people know that baking soda is a “killer remedy” for dust mites and bed bugs too.

Baking soda kills off any parasites by sucking out the moisture from them. So just like Diatomaceous Earth, baking soda works by dehydrating the nasty vermin to death.

All you really need to do here is spread a layer around all infested areas. It usually doesn’t take more than seven days for the process to be completed. After that period ends, use your regular vacuum cleaner to suck up the remainings.

As you can see, this is a very simple technique, and you can repeat it as much as you want. You can repeat it as much as needed to completely eradicate all dust mites and bed bugs in your home. You need to put some effort into it, but once you do, the satisfaction will be very rewarding.

You can use oregano bed bug fighting spray, ginger, and cayenne pepper to create the ultimate killer remedy

All of the strategies above describe one single method that you can use to make your life vermin-free. All you need is a bed bug fighting spray, some ginger, and cayenne pepper, and you can make a true killer cocktail.

As we’ve mentioned already, you don’t need toxic industrial chemicals lingering around your home. You can create a 100% natural remedy on your own. Here’s what you need to do…

You need to prepare the following ingredients:

    • grated ginger (1 tsp)

    • cayenne pepper (1 tsp)

    • oregano essential oil (1 tsp)

  • 1 cup of water

Once everything is set up, add the first three ingredients into a cup of water. After that, you need to boil the whole mix for roughly seven minutes on average. Lastly, you should strain everything into a single spray bottle and spray any area that has dust mites and bed bugs. As soon as we start spraying our ultimate cocktail, we can instantly notice that these pests are slowly going away from our homes (and lives). And yes, the effect is permanent.

We recommend this strategy for anyone who wants a quick and effective way to remove dust mites and bed bugs without relying on detergents and other dangerous chemicals.

If everything else fails, you can use some tea tree oil

The last killer home remedy that we will describe here is tea tree oil. This is a solution that has plenty of expectorant, antiviral, antibiotic, antifungal, and antiseptic properties. With this mix, you can be sure that no parasites will remain around your home.

First things first, you need to dilute around 20 drops of pure tea tree oil in a spray bottle (make sure that the bottle is filled with water). After that, as usual, you just need to spray the affected areas. For best efficiency, make sure you also spray all of your curtains, walls, cabinets, and even your furniture as well. The results will come in before you even notice.

Not only is tea tree oil effective against dust mites and bed bugs, but it’s also very effective against other parasites, insects, and it can even fight viral and bacterial infections as well. So if you want an all-around solution for any parasite in your home, tea tree oil is a must for your arsenal.

In conclusion

You can use one of these strategies and, equally, you can combine more of them to get even better results. As long as you don’t see any dust mites and bed bugs, you shouldn’t change your strategy at all. But feel free to experiment, as you never know when you may discover an approach that works even better.

Also, make sure you always stay away from industrial detergents and other man-made chemicals. They can cause significant issues in the long run, and they can easily pollute your entire home. Just stick to natural remedies and the results will come in the blink of an eye.
